By 6 months, your child should:
- Make a lot of different sounds
- Turn and look at new sounds
- Gum or mouth pureed food
- Transfer toy from hand to hand
- Sit with minimal support
- Work to get a toy while sitting
- Bear weight on legs
By 12 months, your child should:
- Say 2 or 3 words besides Dada and Mama
- Play peek-a-boo
- Put block in cup
- Poke with isolated index finger
- Chew crackers
- Stand alone for 3-5 seconds
- Walk with one hand held
By 18 months, your child should:
- Understand simple instructions
- Attempt to communicate by mixing jargon with real words
- Build a two-cube tower
- Pick up ad drink from a regular cup with minimal splling
- Pull off hat, socks or mittens upon request
- Squat in play, resume standing position
- Atempt to run (even if stiffly)
By 24 months, your child should:
- Have a 200 word vocabulary
- Begin to put two words together
- Hold crayon with fingers and scribble
- Build a six-cube tower
- Suck through a straw
- Undress completely except for fastenings
- Walk down stairs with one hand held
- Jump in place
By 3 years, your child should:
- Talk about immediate experiences
- Have a sentence length of 3 to 4 words
- Snip wih scissors
- Feed self with spoon with no spilling
- Put on simple clothes without assistance (hats, pants, shoes)
- Ride tricycle with pedals
- Walk upstairs alternating feet
- String beads using two hands
